A new illustration has recently been completed for the Urban Skylines artwork collection. The Artwork is created using a combination of acrylic paint, digital photography and vector artwork.

Artwork for Salmon Youth Centre unveiled

Two outdoor signage designs for the Salmon youth Centre were yesterday unveiled at the official opening of the youth centre, by Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. The opening marks the completion of an £11 million pound building project of a youth facility for children and young people in Bermondsey and south London.

The artwork was created using spray painted stencils produced by young people and staff at the youth centre. The stencils were then combined with painted textures and bold typography to create a vibrant and dynamic signage design.

Album Cover Design for Pilot Kings in New York

I have recently completed the album art and cover design for a new album by the band ‘Pilot Kings‘, based in Brooklyn, New York.

Pilot Kings describe themselves as bringing a refreshingly original sound to the NYC scene with a diverse set of tunes ranging from aggressive to introspective that balance pop sensibility with solid musicianship. Their new album is called ‘Painted Garden’ and is due for release early this year.

The album design features a Brooklyn skyline with a dramatic sky background illustration designed to wrap around the card wallet, creating a continuous image.

Royal Horticultural Society Magazine Illustration

This is a bit of an older project, but thought it was worthy of being posted in the journal on the new website:

An illustration was commissioned by The Royal Horticultural Society for a feature in ‘The Garden Magazine’. The brief was to illustrate my own interpretation of the articles title ‘What is a garden for?’. I based the illustration around how gardens are often a place to get away from the stresses and strains of urban living. See the finished illustration by clicking on the thumbnail.

Poster and postcard designs for NWES

A poster and postcard campaign has recently been completed for the ‘Do it for Yourself’ initiative by NWES (www.nwes.org.uk). This project aims to inspire entrepreneurship in Harlow, assisting entrepreneurs in starting a business, helping to develop ideas and access funding. The campaign message is a simple one; you can ‘do it for yourself’. We all can.

The campaign consists of four poster designs printed as postcards and posters (click the thumbnail image to see the designs).

DIFY – do it for yourself, is an Essex Economic participation programme funded by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) via Essex County Council (ECC). Members of the DIFY partnership also include NWES at Harlow Enterprise Hub, Harlow Renaissance, Business Link East and Harlow District Council.

Salmon Youth Centre Annual Report Design

Design and illustration for the Salmon Youth Centre annual report have recently been completed. The annual report design features a set of five graffiti-style illustrations of people, activities and the building. Stencils were created by residents and staff at the youth centre which were spray painted and combined into the various illustrations.

The annual report design covers some of the key services that youth centre offers, including sports, arts, clubs and trips. The report features quotes from the young people, with a focus on clear photography including seven full page photos.

The Big Book of Contemporary Illustration

I recently received some early contributor copies of ‘The Big Book of Contemporary Illustration” which features five of my illustrations. The book by Martin Dawber features about 1000 illustrations over a wide range of subject areas including, the built environment, natural world and graphic illustration. As well as many excellent illustrations the book also contains some interesting thoughts and commentary about the current state of contemporary illustration – highly recommended!

Wedding Stationery Designs

I have recently designed a new set of wedding stationery. The complete set included invites, order of service, menus, gift lists, place names and many more smaller items.

The design concept was based around a theme of butterflies, flowers and branches which was developed into a set of illustrations that flowed through and around the content. The order of service and invites were designed with a gate-fold so that the illustrations flowed over the two page joins.

Summer and Autumn Canvas Prints

I have recently updated two canvas prints, ‘Summer’ and ‘Autumn’ for the Tree Seasons Collection have recently been completed.

Both of these pieces have been in development over the past 6 months, and have been developed from a range of early versions (some of you may have seen these in earlier posts at some point!).

So, the Tree Seasons collection is now complete! I must say I have really enjoyed working on this collection and I do always love to hear your thoughts and comments on my artwork – so, as always, feel free to leave a comment!
